Geocoding
Geo-coding is the process of turning a text-based description of a location, such as its physical address, into a latitude/longitude pair of geographical coordinates.
Geo-coding allows businesses to quickly access various types of locations vital to their business. The addresses to be geocoded are often addresses of customers, suppliers, branch locations, competitor locations, etc.
Geo-matching is the process of comparing pairs of geographical of coordinates.
Here are some examples of how companies may use geo-matching to target specific customers or prospects:
- Sending a mail piece to prospects within X miles of Y
- Excluding prospects who live more than X miles of a location
- Personalizing each mail piece with the closest branch or store locations
